What is it about Painted Dogs that makes them so special?
The Latin name for Painted Dogs is Lycaon pictus, which translates to "painted wolf like creature." Painted dogs remind us of the value of teams and the power of working together. While many people have never even heard of them, Painted Dogs are one of the most Apex hunters on the planet. Their enviable success rate is tied to working in teams, mentoring the young and succeeding together- not going it alone. They are great listeners, highly social and take care of each other like one big family!
- Family is paramount. The protect the pack mentality of painted dogs is one we could all benefit from. They are truly caring for one another, looking after the sick or injured in their pack and they are superb at taking care of their pups with an emphasis on fun!
- Painted dogs have a complex communication system involving different types of barks, calls and body language. Their ability to communicate is one of the key factors of their success as hunters and in keeping their packs together.
- As well as uniquely colored coats, they also have another stand out feature in their large Mickey Mouse shaped ears. Their acute sense of hearing allows them to pick up long distance calls from other members of the pack as well as to hear approaching danger. Their ears remind us to listen twice as much as we talk.
- They are incredibly successful hunters through listening, communicating, and team work.
